About

I'm Doğukan Karabeyin, a software engineer in Istanbul.

Since 2024, I have worked at Rototip as a software engineer. Rototip makes custom parts with CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication. I help connect its customers with the manufacturers who make their parts.

From 2020 to 2023, I worked at Saportif. I joined as its first engineer and later led the software team. Most of the people we hired had not worked as software engineers before, so I taught each of them from the start. By 2023, the software team had grown to six developers. We built a finance management portal for a government client, and Megnoy, our own workflow app.

I like early-stage teams, where I can own a problem from the first line of code to production. I also try new tools often, and most of them start in my own setup at home.

Most of my code today goes through coding agents. I spend a lot of time on the setup around them: how they plan, test, review, and hand work to each other. I expect to write about that here.

At home I run a media server and other self-hosted services, and I use Omarchy on a Dell XPS.

Education

I graduated from Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) in 2024 with a BSc in Electronics and Communication Engineering. At İTÜ, I led the design team of the IEEE student branch and later served as its vice chair. I also worked part-time at CloudCan, where I gave Azure workshops to client teams.

Robot hand

At İTÜ, Selin Unutmaz started a volunteer team in the IEEE student branch to make prosthetic hands with Robotel Türkiye. She led the team with Samed Çelik and me. I did the technical work: the 3D modeling, the printing, and the rest of the build. In January 2020, we gave our first hand to a child. Robotel wrote about the team, and Güneş covered the handover (both in Turkish).

The name

My surname joins two Turkish words: kara means black, and beyin means brain. My GitHub handle, MrBlackBrain, comes from it.
